A small interior pocket is also present which is a nice detail. The interior is lined with a grey wool shirting material and has internal straps made from the same material which hold the cape onto the wearers body. The cape is made from a dark navy blue coloured serge wool and features a three button fastening to the front with a metal hook and eye fastening to the neck. It was possibly originally worn by a member of the Volunteer Aid Detachment or St John Ambulance. Due to the lack of labels and classic design, it is impossible to date the cape exactly. This style of cape was worn by various nursing services during both World Wars as well as in the inter-war period.
